Ø LE RAYOL-CANADEL (IGN 3446 OT)

Itineraries 1- 5 start out from the Tourist Office on the RD 559 road.

1. Grand Rayol-Canadel - Pramousquier roundtrip : 3h45 - 10,8 km - unmarked

Take the RD 559 road towards Cavalaire. Go up the monumental staircase to the circular "Pateck" pergola. Head up the road to the right of the church, then continue to avenues Aix les Bains, C. Bayard and Corniche de Genève. When you reach "Corniche de Nancy", head down 50m to the left, to "Col de l’Etoile". After the "Maison Rose", take the left-hand track to "Col du Canadel". Take either track at the fork (they meet up). At the end of the track, take the tarmacked road on the left to the pass. Walk 500m along the "Route Forestière Privée des Crêtes" towards Bormes, then take "La Louve" forest path towards Pramousquier. Stay on the left at the intersection (sea view), then go down the tarmacked road on the right (small housing estate called "Hautes Louves" n°s 1 to 18 and 19 to 34). Head straight on at the "Corniche des Pins" – "Genêts" intersection. Turn right at the "Corniche des Arbouses" intersection and continue to the road. Head left at "La Louve" towards the RD 559 road. Cross "Chemin de l’Ecuelle" to the old railway track, then turn left towards Cavalaire. After 2.7 km, pass under the tunnel then carry on to the "Parcs du Rayol" car park. Head back up the road on the left, then go back down the monumental staircase and RD 559 road to the Tourist Office.

2. Petit Rayol-Canadel roundtrip : 2h - 6,9 km - unmarked

Same as itinerary n° 1 up to "tarmacked road on the left to the pass". At the crossroads, head down towards the sea. At the intersection, take the road heading downwards next to the sign marked "propriété privée" (private property). After "Avenue des Stoechades", head back up and walk past the cemetery. Head back down the road and straight on to the "Corniches de Toulouse" and "Corniche de Marseille" intersections. Continue to "Corniche de Lyon" then "Avenue de Bruxelles". At the church, head back to the "Pateck" pergola, the right along the small path. Go back down the monumental staircase and RD 559 road to the tourist office.

3. Haut Rayol roundtrip : 1h15 - 3,6 km - unmarked

Same as itinerary n° 1 to the "Pateck" pergola. Head left at the church towards the cemetery and "Avenue de Bruxelles". Go straight on at the intersection, then take "Corniche de Bordeaux", "Corniche de Toulon", "Corniche de Nantes" and "Corniche de Parin" until you come to "Col de l’Etoile". Pass in front of the "Maison Rose", head up "Corniche de Genève", then walk down "Avenue C. Bayard" and "Corniche de Lyon" to the church. Take the footpath on the right, then go back down the monumental staircase and RD 559 road to the tourist office.

4. Canadel roundtrip : 1h35 - 5,7 km - unmarked

Same as itinerary n° 3 to "Avenue de Bruxelles". Head straight on at the intersection, then take "Corniche de Marseille" and "Corniche de Toulouse". Walk past the cemetery, then "Avenue des Stoechades". Turn right at the intersection with "Route de la Mole" towards Le Canadel. Pass in front of the housing estate "HLM Paulette Gola", and continue to the RD 559 road. Cross the road and head left along the old railway track between the road and "Relais des Maures" hotel for 2.7km (tarmac then earth). Go through the tunnel and continue to the car park of the "Parcs du Rayol" residence, the  head back up the road and take the passage on your left leading to the monumental staircase. Go back down the monumental staircase and RD 559 road to the tourist office.

5. Old railway track - return trip - Each itinerary : 1h30 - 6 km - unmarked

Itinerary A : take the RD 559 road towards Cavalaire, then go down the monumental staircase on your right. Walk past the car park of the "Parcs du Rayol" residence, then head left along the mud track (old railway track). Go under the metal bridge and continue to "Hameau du Dattier" before the tunnel. Return via same route.

Itinerary B : same as A to the "Parcs du Rayol", then head right along the mud track (old railway track) for 2.7km. Go under the tunnel and continue to Canadel chapel (the two tracks join up after 50m). Continue to "Chemin du Plageron". Return via same route.

6. "Jardin Marin du Domaine du Rayol"

Discover this luxuriant underwater garden, with its flourishing flora, shallow rocks and sandy beds from July 1st to August 31st. The Domaine du Rayol is a protected site. Bought up by the Conservatoire du Littoral coastal conservation society in 1989, it has since been restored and opened to the public. It provides a fascinating insight into Mediterranean varieties from the world over. Equipment supplied: diving suit, flippers, mask and snorkel. Prior booking required on site or on 0033(0)4 98 04 44 00.

7. Discover the Rayol : 45 min - unmarked

Ø    CAVALAIRE (IGN 3545 OT)

8. "Sentier du Fenouillet" - roundtrip : 1h30 - 2,5km - marked

Footpath opening shortly. Information at the Tourist Office. Round trip to discover our beautiful and preserved Mediterranean plant life, including panoramic view over the Golden Islands (Iles d’Or), Bay of Cavalaire and Maures Hills.

Ø LA CROIX VALMER (IGN 3545 OT)

All walking itineraries start out from the Tourist Office.

9. Option 1 : 7h - 15km - Our wild landscape

Follows the coastal footpath left to Cape Taillat. Head up "Sentier de la Vieille Douane" footpath on your left to the "Baie de Briande" dolmen. Return via same route to Cape Lardier, then take the forest track on your right. Head left at the summit, go past the ruin, then return to the start of the footpath and follow directions to Gigaro. Return via same route.

11. Option 3 : 3h - 6 km - Discover our 19th and early 20th Century residences

You can lunch on Héraclée or Gigaro beaches. Go 100 m down "Bd Tabarin", then turn left into "Bd des Villas" where you will be able to admire La Croix-Valmer's late 19th-century/early 20th-century villas. Turn right before the bridge into Bd Tabarin, and walk past the vineyards. Cross over at the crossroads, and take "Allée de la Bouillabaisse" to the sea. Head left along the coastal footpath, and go past Vergeron, Sylvabelle and Héraclée beaches. Take "Impasse Héraclée", then turn left into "Bd du Littoral" where you can see the old Sylvabelle sanatoriums and inhalatoriums. Return to village via "Bd Tabarin".

10. Option 2 : 2h - 7km - In the footsteps of the Allied Landings in  Provence

You can lunch on "Plage du Débarquement" beach. Head right along the coastal footpath to "Plage du Débarquement" beach. When you reach the war monument, follow the blue markings. Continue to the roundabout (rond point de la 1ère DFL), then take direction "Barbigoua – Bd de la Mer". Turn right along "Avenue de Provence" Walk past the square by the municipal swimming pool. Return to the old railway station above the Tourist Office.

12. Option 4 : 2 h - 6 km - The little Switzerland

13. Orange itinerary - " Panoramas over the Bay " : 3h - 8km - orange markings.

Head up "Rue L. Martin". Turn left after the tobacconist's into "Rue F. Mistral" (follow the signs marked "groupe scolaire"). Turn left onto the footpath 50m after the "Château de Chausse". Turn right at the vineyard, then continue alongside the vines until you reach the embankment. Head up the footpath to the right. At the top, take the 2nd footpath on your left. Turn left at the GR 51 crossroads. Turn left after the reservoir, then left again 50m further on. Head back down and follow the footpath to the "Château de Chausse".

14. Green itinerary " The Riches of the Land " : 2h - 6 km - green markings. Discovering our local wineyards.

Head up "Rue L. Martin". Turn right after the tobacconist's, cross the road, then take "Route du Brost" on your right. Take the footpath on your left after the stadium. Walk to the tarmacked road, then turn right before the bridge. Continue to the mimosa forest. Head down to the left after "Les Mas de la Galliasse" to "Corniche de la Pinède". Cross the road and take "Allée des Cassis" on your left. Take the footpath on your right after the "Villa des Eléphants". Turn left when you reach the tarmacked road and follow signs to the village.

Ø RAMATUELLE (IGN 3545 OT)

15. Coastal footpath

Itinerary A Plage de Tahiti - Plage du Migon - 1h30 - 5km. Route de Tahiti. Start out from the north end of Pampelonne beach (nearest to Saint-Tropez). Walk along the shore from Tropezina to Migon - the peninsula's largest beach, interspersed with beach restaurants.

Itinerary B Plage du Migon – Bonne Terrasse 15mn – 0,5km. Route de Bonne Terrasse. Summer : municipal parking area for motor homes from April-October. Winter: car park to left of Le Migon restaurant, open from November to end March. Start out from extreme south end of Pampelonne beach. Take the marked coastal footpath set at the foot of the cliffs. After 100 m, you will come to "Lou Pous" natural spring. Carry on to "Bonne Terrasse" cove and its little fishermen's houses.

Itinerary C Plage de Bonne Terrasse – Cap Camarat or Phare de Camarat  30mn – 2,5km. Route de Bonne Terrasse. No parking available, car park same as itinerary B. This is where the serious walking starts! Climb 20 minutes up to "Phare de Camarat", lighthouse (alternatively you can take the right-hand path which leads to the lighthouse in 10 mins.) Panoramic viewpoint, 130m above sea level. If you carry on straight ahead, you will come to the rock nicknamed "l'Ile aux Oiseaux" (bird island). Alternative round trip: at the lighthouse, follow the road for 20m, then the path heading back down to "Bonne Terrasse".

Itinerary D Cap Camarat – l'Escalet - 1h20 - 4,5km. Route de Camarat. This itinerary kicks off at the foot of the cliffs with a series of ascents and descents, before heading back down to Escalet and its private marina.

Itinerary E Escalet – Cap Taillat - 35mn - 2km - yellow markings : easy, blue markings: more difficult. Route de l'Escalet. Unquestionably the prettiest section of the coastal footpath, with the long sandy arm (isthmus) of Taillat as a backdrop – you will reach the isthmus after crossing a series of coves. You will be able to admire the beautiful sea beds from the top of Cape Taillat, and their changing colours according to the wind. Experienced walkers can reach Plage de Gigaro beach by continuing for 2 hours on the same footpath.

Ø SAINT-TROPEZ (IGN 3545 OT)

16. Coastal path : 3h30 - 14km - yellow markings.

From Pampelonne beach to Ramatuelle, via "Cap du Pinet", "Pointe du Capon", "Les Salins" salt marshes, "La Moutte", "Baie des Canebiers" bay and "Tour du Portalet" tower. Arrival at Saint-Tropez port. Return via same route.

17. Coastal path :  3h30 - 12km -  yellow markings - car park.

Starting out from sailing school in Canebiers bay. Follow the coastal footpath via "Cap St Pierre", then "Plage de la Moutte" and "Plage des Salins" beaches. After the fire station, cross the car park to "Chemin de la Fontaine de la Treille", then follow the road back to the sailing school. You can also start and finish this itinerary at "Tour du Portalet" tower in Saint-Tropez port (+ 2 hrs.).

Ø GASSIN (IGN 3545 OT)

18 à 21. Arlatane itineraries : ▲195m - wooden signposts and arrows.  Parking at village entrance.

Village discovery itineraries. Head towards the village's new quarter and pass the Post Office (Poste). Panoramic view over the Maures hills. Head down to the right before the schools ("Circuit promenade – jardin botanique"). Go down the steps at the sports ground. The footpaths span out from the children's play area. Walk past the old washtub, then follow the signs.

18. Sentier des Bugadières: 10mn - red markings

After the washtub, turn left towards "Traverse des Bugadières". Walk round the sports grounds then head back up the wooden steps to the village.

19. Sentier de l'Arlatane: 30mn

Continue to the right at the crossroads ("Sentier des Sources" on left) and head down the road. Turn left at the intersection and take "Sentier des Restanques" (do not head straight on). Follow the markings.

20. Sentier des Restanques: 50mn

Same departure point as for "Sentier de l’Arlatane" itinerary. Carry straight on (Sentier du Vallat) on the right. Return via the "Sentier des Sources" on the left, then head back up to the village.

21. Sentier des Sources: 50mn - yellow markings

Pass the washtub, then head towards the "Sentier des Sources" after the "Traverse des Bugadières" signpost. Turn right at the first crossroads and follows the signs (go past "Sentier des Restanques" on your right). Follow the "Sentier des Sources de l’Arlatane" marked footpath. Continue to the washtub and picnic area. Return via same route or "Sentier du Vallat".

22. Sentier du Vallat: 50mn - green markings

Carry on along the "Sentier des sources de l’Arlatane". At the first crossroads, follow the sign marked "Sentier du Vallat – Village". Alternatively, return via the "Sentier des Restanques."

Ø  COGOLIN (IGN 3545 OT)

23. Sentier des Crêtes:  4h - 15km - ▲ 336m - 326 m - vertical signposts - carpark - roundtrip

Departs from the Gavotte water treatment station, GR 51 long-distance footpath. Head back up the path to the "Bagueirède Sud" barrier, then the Peinier ruins. Take the track on the right (go past "Crête de Peinier" barrier on your left). At the summit, head back down "Val d’Astier" to the right. Turn right at the water tank. Pass in front of the war memorial then turn left to the fork. Carry straight on, along the meadow and river. At the next intersection, follow the water tanks on your left, then take the path on your right to "Pont de la Gravière" bridge. Cross the bridge, follow the river to the road, then head right back up to the departure point.

24. Sentier Botanique dit "Chemin des Tortues":  45mn - 2 km -  round trip

Car park and departure point: cabin in "Quartier Négresse" next to tennis courts. Informative itinerary on the themes of nature, fauna and flora: Oaks, Ferns, Euphorbia, Sarsaparilla, Myrtle, etc.

Ø GRIMAUD (IGN 3545 OT)

25. Sentier de la Castellane: 1h - 3,8km - green markings - place Neuve

Starting from tourist office: village, Castellane, Vicairie, Mignonne, Beausoleil, tourist office. Lower area of village and vicinity.

26. Sentier du Pont des Fées - round trip : 40mn - 1,5 km - sky blue markings

Starting out from castle. After the mill (moulin), head down the track, then turn off to the right at the large fallen oak tree on your left and follow the river to the bridge. Carry straight on, then head back up to the car park.

27. Sentier du Pierredon - round trip : 50mn - 2 km - dark blue markings

Same departure point as n° 21. Turn right at the fallen oak. Continue along the track, then take the ford and the bridge. Return to the village via the tarmacked road, then head back down to the village and "Moulin St Roch" mill.

28. Sentier de la Calade - round trip: 1h15 - 3,7 km - orange markings

Same departure point as n° 21. After the bridge, continue along the track to the road. Head up to the "Oratoire St Joseph" at the intersection, then back down and to the right to the village and "Moulin St Roch" mill.

Ø SAINTE-MAXIME (IGN 3545 OT, 3544 OT)

29. Coastal footpath - return trip : 15mn - 800m - yellow markings


Departure from "Pointe des Sardinaux" to the left of the blockhouse towards "Plage de la Nartelle" beach.

30 to 32 Catalugno itineraries : yellow markings

3 round trips starting out from the RD 44 road. From Sainte-Maxime, take the Route du Muy – RD 25, then turn off to the right after around 9 km when you see the sign "Plan de la Tour, itinéraire touristique". Pass over the bridge on "Col de Gratteloup" pass. Departure points on RD 44 road (2 car parks situated 2.6 km apart). Panoramic views over the Bay of Saint-Tropez and Maures Hills.

30. Sentier de la crête de Catalugno: 2h - 5,3km - 200m

31. Sentier du Cros du Mouton: 1h - 2,7km - 110m

32. Sentier du Beaucas: 2h30 - 5,7km - 175m

33 to 34. Sentier du Quilladou: 2 round trips - yellow markings

When you leave Sainte-Maxime, take direction highway A8 by avenue George Clémenceau, then the Plan de la Tour road. At the roundabout Neuenbürg, take the Saquèdes road facing the mac donald parking entrance and follow this road on 1.4 km. Park down on your right. departs on your left at the level of the mailbox n°79.

33. Sentier du Deffend : 3h - 6,3km - 284m

1,7 km on the Saquèdes road. Panoramic view over the Bay of Saint-Tropez.

34. Sentier de la Baumette : 2h30 - 6,3km

Discover flora and fauna of the Maures Hills.

Ø LE PLAN DE LA TOUR (IGN 3545 OT)

35. Le Sentier des Gorgues: 2h - 7,6km - yellow signposts and arrows - round trip

Departure from the tourist office. Take the RD 74 road towards Sainte-Maxime. At the ruined "Chapelle St Pierre" chapel, turn right and take the tarmacked road then the track. After the ford on Préconil – Les Gorgues river, continue along the track to the crossroads, then head left. Arrival at "Hameau de Prat Bourdin" (hamlet) after the megalith. Turn right and pass the farmhouse. Turn left at the crossroads, then take the RD 44 road to "Hameau de Préconil". Avoid "Hameau des Roubauds". At the intersection with the ancient "Route du Col du Vignon", leave the footpath and head up to the right towards "Hameau du Vernet". Cross the hamlet and join the RD 74 via "Hameau de la Forge". Return to tourist office.

Ø LA GARDE FREINET (IGN 3545 OT)

36. Sentier du Fort Freinet : 2h- 4km - 450m - 150m - round trip

Archaeological site and viewpoint. Itinerary: "Aire de la Planète", "La Croix", Fort", "Aire de la Planète".

37. Sentier de Saint-Clément : 2h - 10km - 257m - 100m

Ideal family outing. Chapel restored by sculptor Di Teana (stained glass windows portraying the Way of the Cross). Itinerary: "Chemin de St Clément", "Ransou", "La Bagarède", "Pontillaou", "Seigneurolles", village.

38. Sentier de Notre Dame de Miremer : 3h - 10km -  403m -100m

Chapel and magnificent panoramic view over the Bay of Saint-Tropez / Maures Hills. Itinerary: "Chemin de St Eloi", "Refren", "Oratoire, "Notre-Dame de Miremer", "Oratoire", village.

39. Sentier de Peygros : 3h - 10km -  450m - 150m

Remarkable chestnut woods – views over Saint Clément plain and Notre Dame de Miremer. Itinerary: "Route du Plan de la Tour", "Seigneurolles", "La Gourre", "Peygros", "Seigneurolles", village.

 

40. Sentier des Roches Blanches : 3h - 7km -  637m - 250 à 300m

Remarkable panoramic views. Geological phenomena including quartz, garnets and mica-schist. Itinerary: "Route de la Cour", "Val Verdun", "Route des Crêtes", "Roches Blanches", "Route de la Croix", village.

41. Sentier des hameaux du Sud : 4h - 14,5 km - 100 à 150m

Featuring picturesque hamlets, and panoramic views over wild landscapes and Grimaud and Cogolin plains. Itinerary: "Route de la Cour", "Aire de Val Verdun", "La Suyère", "Val d’Aubert", "Les Vieilles Sinières", "Les Sinières", "Route de St Eloi", village.

42. Sentier de la Mourre : 4h - 15km -  320m - 0 à 100m

Itinerary crossing a beautiful hamlet, featuring a chapel, cemetery, square and fountain. Itinerary: "Chemin des Teilles" (towards Le Luc), "Oratoire", "Les Mourgues", "La Mourre", "Peygros", "Les Seigneurolles", village.

43. Sentier des hameaux Est : 5h - 12km - 0 à 150m

Superb panoramic views over Maures plain and wild landscapes. Itinerary: "Hameau de la Mourre", "Les Cabrettes", "Vaucron", "Camp Long" and "Les Poulas". Return to "Hameau de la Mourre", village.

44. Sentier du Pont Romain : 5h - 14km - 100m - 150m

Outward: ancient Roman bridge and Roman road. Return: ancient ruined mills and streams. Itinerary: "Chemin des Teilles" (towards Le Luc), "Oratoire", "Pont Romain" (Roman Bridge), RD 48 road, "Carrefour des Mayons", "Sentier du Barrage", village.

Ø LA MOLE (IGN 3545 OT)

45. Barrage de la Verne : 5h45 - 21 km - stone signposts with white lettering - Round trip or return trip.

Panoramic views over the Maures Hills. Departure from "Eglise de la Mole" church. Car park.Exit from the village, direction Toulon. Walk along the RN 98 road to the traffic lights. Turn right inside the housing estate and carry on to "Barrage de La Verne" dam. Follow the right bank of the reservoir for around 1 hour. Steep 2km rise up "Sentier des Moines" to the "Chartreuse de la Verne". Return via same route.

46. Sentier de la Sainte-Magdeleine : 1h - 4 km

Discover the countryside of la Mole in the heart of the Maures Hills.

47. Sentier de Grande Randonnée : under construction
